The YMCA Junior Counselors Program runs annually June–August. Prospective participants must apply for the program. Once accepted, they will be able to register for the weeks they wish to participate during.
YMCA Junior Counselors
Entering Grades 7+
The YMCA Junior Counselors is a weekly summer leadership program. Under the guidance of YMCA Teen Leadership Staff, junior counselors develop skills through team building and hands-on experience shadowing camp program staff in other YMCA camps. Breakfast, lunch, and snack are provided daily.
Application required.
Upcoming Sessions:
- Sessions are offered weekly starting June 15. The last week of program is offered August 17.
- Each session runs Monday–Friday from 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.

Applicants should complete the application found on this page. If accepted, you will be invited to register for your preferred program week(s).

Junior Counselors FAQs
The application period opens annually in February. Applications are rolling from February–August.
The Junior Counselor week runs Monday–Friday. Our weekly schedule is as follows:
Monday: Peer bonding through a discussion of expectations, team building initiatives, and a half-day adventure or service project.
Tuesday–Thursday: Sort and load camp meals into bus. Accompany your assigned camp for the week, working alongside camp staff and engaging with campers.
Friday: Peer bonding through an intentional debrief of the week and a half-day adventure or service project.

The YMCA Junior Counselors program accepts students entering grades 7+.
Yes. While this program is designed to nurture independence and help teens develop good decision-making skills, junior counselors are supervised by YMCA Teen Leadership staff and counselors.
