Our Swim Team
Ages 5-18
Led by nationally recognized Head Coach Kirby Beierle, the Missoula YMCA Swim Team (MYST) is a competitive swim team for swimmers of all ages and abilities. Coach Kirby's swim philosophy focuses on developing swimmers physically, mentally, and emotionally while embracing the YMCA's core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility. Since its inception, MYST has sent countless swimmers on to swim at the collegiate level.
MYST also offers a pre-competitive program to help young swimmers offers a team environment while helping prepare them for the competitive program.

Pre-Competitive Swim Crew
Our Pre-Competitive Swim Crew is for swimmers ages 5+ who want to try swim team before committing. Swimmers in this crew commit to one 45-minute practice.
Cost

Littles Swim Crew
The Littles Swim Crew is for swimmers ages 5-11 who want to swim at a competitive level. Swimmers in this crew commit to four practices per week.

Middles Swim Crew
The Middles Swim Crew is for swimmers ages 11-14 who want to swim at a competitive level. Swimmers in this crew commit to eight practices per week.

Bigs Swim Crew
The Bigs Swim Crew is for swimmers ages 14-18 who want to swim at a competitive level. Swimmers in this crew commit to ten practices per week.

Angel Sharks Swim Crew
The Angel Sharks Swim Crew is for swimmers ages 5-18 who are neurodivergent and/or have cognitive disabilities, and who want to swim at a competitive level. Swimmers in this crew commit to two practices per week.

Missoula YMCA Swim Team FAQs
During the short-course season (September–May), the Missoula YMCA Swim Team practices in the YMCA's 25-yard indoor pool. During the long-course season (June–August), the team practices at Splash Montana's 50-meter outdoor pool.
We also host "dry land" workouts throughout the year. These workouts are held in the YMCA's Health & Wellness Center, Functional Training Room, and Youth Gym.
Yes. YMCA of the USA requires all competitive youth swimmers hold active YMCA memberships. Membership discounts are available for youth swimming for the Missoula YMCA Swim Team.
No previous competitive experience is required to join the Missoula YMCA Swim Team. However, swimmers must be able to swim eight lengths of any stroke in the YMCA's indoor pool (25 yards per length).
Yes. Our pre-competitive swim team is for swimmers ages 5+. Swimmers will work with coaches to improve technique and endurance. Practices are 45 minutes and held once a week. The pre-competitive team meets September–May.
