The YMCA Junior Counselors Program runs annually June–August. Prospective participants must use the form below to apply for the program. Once accepted, they will be able to register for the weeks they wish to participate during.
YMCA Junior Counselors
Entering Grades 7+
The YMCA Junior Counselors is a weekly summer leadership program. Application required.
Upcoming Sessions:
- Sessions are offered weekly starting June 15. The last week of program is offered August 17.
- Each session runs Monday–Friday from 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.

Junior Counselors FAQs
The application period opens annually in March. Applications are rolling from March–August.
The Junior Counselor week runs Monday–Friday. Our weekly schedule is as follows:
Monday: Check in at the YMCA. Peer bonding through a discussion of expectations, team building initiatives, and a half-day adventure or service project. Check out at the YMCA.
Tuesday–Thursday: Check in at the YMCA. Sort and load camp meals into bus. Accompany your assigned camp for the week, working alongside camp staff and engaging with campers. Check out at varies based on your teen's camp assignment. Assignments are provided at the start of the week.
Friday: Check in at the YMCA. Peer bonding through an intentional debrief of the week and a half-day adventure or service project. Check out at the YMCA.

The YMCA Junior Counselors program accepts students entering grades 7+.
This program is designed to nurture independence and help teens develop good decision-making skills. The junior counselor position requires a level of trust and responsibility. YMCA Teen Leadership staff and counselors provide guidance to junior counselors, who are given opportunities to showcase their responsibility.
